Hi all,
i'm Urban and i coming from Ljubljana, Slovenija.

I have plan to go to Slovakia at first half of August. I'm planing to ride around Vysoké Tatry. And would appreciate any tips about roads, places to visit and places to sleep.

Hi, Urban,

there is basically only one interesting road directly around Vysoke Tatry and that is from Tatranska Javorina (at the Polish border) through Tatranska Lomnica, Vysoke Tatry (the town of), straight to Liptovsky Hradok. It takes 1 hour to travel it in one direction.

But you could try roads close to Nizke Tatry.
For example this one: Poprad-Telgart-Brezno-Tisovec-Poprad.
Or with an extension to Dobsina (famous road racing hill + ice cave): Poprad-Vernar-Dobsina-Poprad.

You can also try a road from Gemerska Poloma to Spisska Nova Ves.

These roads are much more fun to ride. Although, they are a bit more to the south.

I wouldn´t advise you to go even more to the south (like to Roznava or Rimavska Sobota). There are way too many gipsies there, some of them throwing stones at cars and bikes passing by Just for the fun of it

Depending on the intended time to spend, the fastest way through High Tatras with good surface is this:

I do not recommend to dine anywhere on the road because of the unadequate prices and service. Maybe a good choice will be to stop at Route 66 bar in Liptovsky Mikulas prior the journey. It´s not a typical slovak restaurant but if you don´t mind the american interior the offer is pretty acceptable.

Urban, just don't expect roads and views similar to the ones in Slovenia (Vrsic, Mangart), cause you'd be disappointed, we don't have such mountain passes here...

How about police and speed traps? Is police strict in Slovakia about speed on motorcycle? How much do they charge for speeding?
And any ideas about roads in Poland around Zakopane and pirces in Poland for B&B? Is it cheaper or more expensive then in Slovakia?

Hi jeszt, regarding speed I can recommend very easy "trick": just respect 50/90/130 and in this case you needn't to be worry about charging or penalty
It's much better to invest your money to a good beer as to support our police, isn't it?

not really, but once they stop a foreigner (even in a car) they will try to charge you more, so it's better to obey the limits... but i've been stopped maybe 2 times overall on a bike in 6 years so...
